Welcome!

In 2025, as we face dramatic changes in our collective world, I have been doing some soul searching and found that instead of the natural desire to protect, close-in or run away, my inclination is to open myself up, take more risks, try new things and live more lightly and adventurously.

I am reminded that we need opportunities to help us dream and sometimes that means getting out of our comfort zone and giving ourselves permission to explore and be our authentic selves. I want to challenge and confront some of these fears and limitations through a safe space of art making and community and so I have decided to launch the Creative Campfires, starting April 2, 2025.

Creative Campfires

The Creative Campfires are a monthly opportunity to gather online for 90 minutes and create art in a safe and supportive community. Each month I will share an art-making practice that is freeing, fun and restorative; living in full colour, finding your way from darkness to light. These practices are ones I've used in my own art, writing and music, as well as the art making programs that I have developed in my therapeutic and educational work and communities.

It will be a creative meditative space to still your mind, stretch your art making and gain new insights. We will take time to reflect, share discoveries, challenges and invite change. In this community, you will find the support you need for your personal growth and in turn these skills will help in your day-to-day life.

Throughout our workshops, I will share art tips, techniques, resources and self-care strategies. I will teach you to work with new materials and guide you through many different art-making practices such as, mindful watercolours, smashbooking, mixed media painting, songwriting and zine making.

You will also have access to a private online community where you can connect and share with fellow members.

About Isabel

I am Isabel Fryszberg, founder of Arts-Based Well-Being, a practice and program to nourish one's capacity for wellness through the arts.

I am a registered Occupational Therapist and inter-disciplinary artist (painter, singer/songwriter, filmmaker) from Toronto. As a maker, devoted to process, play and engagement, I have spent my career dedicated to finding ways that the arts can be a natural part of our lives that offer community, nourishment and well-being.

I have gathered over thirty years of experience developing arts-based programming and online resources for hospitals, diverse communities, individuals, students and health practitioners. In my years working in this field, I have learned about the power of visceral art making which has inspired me to return to my own painting practice and to be fully present. I have witnessed first-hand how the arts can be transformative and bring out our best, especially our sense of vitality and aliveness.
